3 Deadly Drabbles - Inspired by Art
A trio of 100-word stories inspired by images
The Farmers Wife
She strode across the newly plowed field with purpose, the wooden handle of the sickle warm in her hand. She had played the role of obedient wife for too long now, cooking, cleaning, and spreading her legs. She had been happy to do so when she believed herself to be his only woman.
As she approached, the farmer lifted his head and watched as she dropped the white veil of her now soiled dress over her face. She could see the fear shine in his eyes.
He begged for mercy as she swung the sickle, painting her white dress red.
In Dreams
Riley has never felt at peace in this world. If asked to explain, she would simply say that her senses don’t align with the natural world. Pressed further, she might also say that her skin doesn’t fit right.
The only time Riley feels just right is in her dreams. When she drifts away, she is transported to a world beneath dark water, but rather than drowning, she feels she can finally breathe.
Tentacled creatures moved around her, gliding through the darkness with occasional caresses of her skin. She often wishes for sudden death and a return to her permanent home.
The Cult
They wear ceramic masks of creatures of all kinds. Some are hunters, like lions and tiger sand bears, oh my. Others are rabbits and sheep, submissive types and willing prey for member of the higher order.
Lilith is dressed in black, her rabbit mask a sign of submission to the others. It is all a lie, though, as Lilith is a hunter, a killer, a ravager of men.
She waits beyond the glow of the bonfire while others cut and cavort. Soon, a hunter approaches and she licks her lips, ready to flip the script and feast on another soul.
