Today's collection of drabbles falls on the weird side of the spectrum

Alice & Lee

The stories of what happened in the town of Luckville vary from person to person. One thing they all agree on, though, is that a tragic accident was covered up by the government.

Luckville is off limits to the public, but adventurous kinds have made it in, taking pictures of the town turned to stone and trapped in time. Among the remnants are a couple fused together in a casual embrace, as though posing for a picture.

Those who have seen them call them Alice and Lee, giving names to the nameless. The flowers left behind add color to death.

Family Portrait

“I’m here because I know what took your children.”

“You mean who,” the wealthy man scoffed.

“No, sir, I mean what.” He looked around the room, taking in the men with their hands inside their jackets, fingers undoubtedly touching concealed firearms. “You hired good are no match for this thing, this God.”

“I’m not a spiritual man” the billionaire growled.

“That is exactly why your little ones were chosen. They are filled with hate, which my…I mean, the God craves. With their essence, he will be ready to take over the world.” He raised his head, tears spilling. “Praise Cthulhu.”

Dodo

A surge of electricity passed through the crowd inside the big top as they awaited the finale. The flyers had promised a spectacle, a creature brought to the deep south from the jungles of some far-flung land.

A gentle breeze drifted through the open flaps of the tent, the wind offering scant reprieve from the stuffiness of summer. The lantern candles flickers and cast dancing shadows as the thing stepped into view.

The crowd gasped as the giant bird, dressed in an old, stained clown costume looked at them through soulless black eyes. The dodo opened its beak and screamed.
