3 Deadly Drabbles - Vampires
All the world is beauty and blood
Once Bitten
The old man stumbled into the late-night diner, a wrinkled hand pressed against his neck, eyes wide.
“What’s up, Herbert? The usual?” the server at the counter called out, barely looking up.
“Something bit me,” Herbert yelled, his frail voice somehow rediscovering its youthful timbre. He pulled his hand away to reveal a pair of holes in his neck, blood oozing out slowly from the wounds.
The other diners turned in time to see the door swing open one more time. A tall man walked in, casting his eye around the restaurant.
He grinned, baring sharp teeth. “It’s feeding time.”
Transfusion
Del stared at the doctor and listened to him ramble on about how lucky he was to be alive after the crash. The doc’s voice sounded too loud, but that wasn’t the worst, not by a long shot.
Every sound in the room seemed amplified, yet the one thing that overrode everything was the rush of blood coming from the doctor.
Narrowing his eyes, Del stared at the doctor’s exposed neck, time slowing down as he watched blood move through a thick vein. As the doc spoke of the transfusion Del had received, the vein pulsed, begging to be bitten.
Sunlight
They sit in a meadow of soft grass, surrounded by the first flowers of spring. In the pre-dawn gloom, everything lives in shades of grey, waiting for Mother Nature to apply her brush.
He holds her close, listening to her labored breaths with an ache in his long dead heart. The blood virus took her, and while it has yet to touch him, he knows their kind is on the brink of extinction.
The sun begins to rise over the distant hills, their skin beginning to bubble as the first rays touch down. In a moment, they will become ash.

Waiting for Mother Nature to apply her brush… loved that!
I enjoyed all, but the third was a masterpiece--especially the first paragarph, which could stand on its own.
