Eclipse

We watched in awe as the moon slowly moved in front of the sun, blocking out the light and turning night into day. What none of us expected was for it all to stop, for the moon to stay in place, the meager light behind it blinking out.

There was silence for a moment, and then a scream, and then panic. Everything turned to shit as the world grew slowly darker and colder. Winter was coming and people needed to prepare, to stock the freezers and hunker down.

That was when the killing began and food prep consumed us all.

Little Miss Green

It felt like an ordinary family picnic in the park until the little girl walked out of the trees, teddy bear in hand. She looked dirty at first glance, but it was something that would not wash off. No amount of scrubbing could remove the green hue of her skin.

When asked about her home, she would look to the skies, eyes wide and filled with wonder. And then she would point to some distant star, a pinpoint of light that could not possibly be her home.

With each passing day, that star grew brighter, drew nearer, and became armada.

The Signal

After years of searching space for signs of life, they found us first. The people at SETI called it “The Signal,” and it kept coming, louder and louder.

It was not a code or a form of transmission that anyone immediately understood, but the brightest minds took up the task of deciphering the signal. Eventually, the message became clear…Death is Coming.

Now we sit and wait, scanning the skies and waiting for the moment they appear with the intent of wiping us out. No one will say it, but we all believe that we had it coming, our inevitable end.
