I cannot say that I escaped, more that I was allowed to leave the house with no windows. Having had their fill, the creatures turned me and sent me out on my own.
I should be pleased that my release came in the nighttime hours. No death by sunlight for me, not for now. Given the hunger pains, a quick death may have been preferable.
I look up to the sky and imagine how many more stars will die before I do. Running my tongue across my newly formed fangs, I set out into the night in search of sustenance.
