Ancient Unexplained Evil - YES

I hate when some random person shows up with everything we need to know about the monster. Sometimes there's not even a reason for that character to have this knowledge. Part of why I loved Cloverfield. But then all the online lore came out. I was so mad.

Deep Rising does this too, and it ruins the monster. Seeing the entire monster also ruins the monster. Oof. I still love that movie so much though.

Cloverfield is a perfect example of the way I like it.

My favourites are the Isolated Locations and the Ancient, Unexplained Evil.

But what does me in is the creepy child or the possessed doll.

Oh and handheld/ old found footage. Some of my favourite movies are done this way. Two of my favourites are the Hell House 1 and Cloverfield.

Creepy kids and dolls are brutal. There is definitely some great found footage stuff out there.

100% agreed on jump scares. It’s gotten a bad rap for being cheap, which I think is nonsense. There’s a place for well-executed jump scares in every horror movie

Right. One or two great ones in any movie is greatly appreciated.

I love all of those. Add mad scientist and irresponsible with power.

Mad scientist is always great

I'm a huge fan of the old Hammer House of Horror films.

Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing... they broke the mould when they were made. Such great character actors!
