Once the orderly starts projecting his loss onto Billy's situation, he becomes susceptible inthe same way Billy did. It's like grief creates a kind of aperture that supernatural stuff can slip through.
The final image works well, but what really caught me was "grief stabbing his heart, ever so gently” —that contradiction carries more unease than the doll itself. Nice one.
Oooh I like this!! I have a doll collection, and this gave me some chills! I had friends as a kid terrified of my dolls. The ambience and pacing was appropriately claustrophobic! Giving just enough details to keep me interested while also moving quickly to keep me unsettled!
