The tension in this chapter really comes from how tightly everyone is being controlled—Salem trying (and failing) to break through Thorn’s mental defenses, and Raven choosing active resistance even when it’s clearly going to escalate everything.

I like how Salem’s power being blocked isn’t just a “can’t do it” moment, but something that actually frustrates and destabilizes her in real time. It makes Thorn feel more dangerous without needing him to do much physically.

And then cutting to Raven shifts the stakes in a really interesting way—especially the idea that “freedom” here still comes with responsibility for what gets left behind.
