The icky part of running a writing business
The business of marketing my work is something that makes me nauseous, but I also understand that if I want to be able to continue writing on a full-time basis, it is the nature of the beast. I have a couple of things to discuss here but be aware that if you are a paid subscriber, much of this will be part of your membership.
Let’s start with the PDF version of my Penny Dreadful story that I released yesterday. If you’d like it on your Kindle, I am giving all of you the file, including free subscribers. I made up a mock cover, of course using AI, so if that’s an issue, please do feel free to skip it. This will be selling for $1 in my store, so if you still fancy dropping a donation, I’ll leave a link at the bottom of this piece. alongside the PDF file.
Let’s Talk About Macabre Mail
There are going to be 2 different levels of mail available. Anyone who purchases an annual subscription on Substack will receive both, while I will also be selling them individually in my Buy Me A Coffee store, as well as potentially on Etsy. Let me quickly break down both options.
Macabre Mail Basic ($4)
In this package, you get a cool postcard with a drabble attached on back on antique looking paper. It will also come with a letter, typed out by yours truly. I might also add a couple of stickers into this deal, too. I will be looking on Amazon for some cool stuff.
Macabre Mail Plus ($6)
This package will have a unique drabble that only you will receive. It can be personalized and based off an idea of your choosing, of you so wish. This drabble will come on gothic stationary, which will also include a handwritten note from me on the other side. I will also be adding a sticker made specifically for your story.
Since this is a whole new venture for me, I am unsure if the pricing is decent or way too high. What I can say is that there will not be a ton of profit on these when you consider how much the supplies cost, but I think it’s a fun way to get my words out to the masses. I say masses, but I will be stunned if anyone actually buys this stuff.
If you do decide to pay for an annual subscription to my Substack, you will get a package that includes both MM options as a way of saying thank you. I will be starting this offering on April 2, but if you are already an annual paid sub, drop me a message and I’ll get your package organized ASAP.
