The Paranormal Digest for Jan 24, 2026
All the colors are creepy
For those of you who have been following this weekly series, you know that I usually try to create some sort of theme, many of which are tenuous at best. This week, the focus is on colors. I’m sure that most of these connections are in my head, so please don’t try to overthink it, as I don’t want to be responsible for driving you all crazy. Anyway, let’s get to the spooky stuff for this week.
Haunted Location - The Ancient Ram Inn
There are mixed reports on this location in Wotton-Under-Edge in England, with some claiming that the building has been around since the 1100s. This, though, has been thoroughly debunked, with the real age of the inn dating back to 1495-96. Either way, it is deserving of the ancient in its name. Apparently, it is also deserving of its claim to being one of the most haunted spots in Britain. Not only is the Ancient Ram In home to several ghosts, but visitors also report feeling uneasy and even nauseous upon setting foot inside. I don’t know about you guys, but I would gladly pop in for a pint.

Urban Legend - The Redcap
We covered a lot of stuff in Scotland last week, but let’s take another trip back to discuss the Redcap. These goblinlike creatures are saif to inhabit the borders along the line that separates Scotland from England. They are drawn to places of violence and are said to get the red for their hats by dipping them in blood. Surely, dye is the more appropriate option here.
Creepy Cryptid - Madremonte
Out next stop is in Colombia, where tales of the Madremonte (Mother of the Mountain) are common. She is reportedly a nature spirit described as having skin that looks like bark or moss, with flowers in her hair or on her clothing. She is believed to punish hunters, loggers, and the unfaithful, while also leaving gifts for those who forage the forests for food to feed themselves or their families. Given the current price of groceries, we could use her right now, so be good.
Video of the Week - Fascinating Horror
Between digests, I am very often on YouTube looking for new urban legends, creepy places, and more. The great thing about doing this is that I get a lot of cool new channels recommended to me. This week, I stumbled upon Fascinating Horror. If you are looking for minsters and such, this is not the channel for you, but if you want terrifying real-life stories, you’ll love it. The video attached is about a pink grain that ended up being a nightmare.
Horror Book of the Week - Red Womb by C.M. Guidroz
I am trying something new this week, which is to start adding books that are listed as free at the time of writing. Be aware that if you don’t get them on the day this article is released, you might be out of luck. Anyway, I am heading into extreme horror territory for this week’s pick, which is Red Womb by C.M. Guidroz.
Deadly Drabble - Evergreen
Lush and verdant, the forest called them inside with lullabies that told of eternal life. They obeyed the call and stepped off the trail, the moss like cushions beneath their now bare feet.
Moving deeper, they marveled at the symbols carved into the trees, silky sap dripping from the gashes like angel tears. They used it to slake their thirst, which was when the visions began.
Great horned creatures watched from afar, bleached skulls glowing in the light that broke through the canopy. The real world was lost to them, but this new place of earthen delights felt like home.
Random Weirdness - The Blue Mist
More than once in the past, we have talked about the spookiness and weirdness of the Appalachians. We are returning once more to talk about the blue mist. There have been many reports of a strange, blue-tinged mist that forms, with some claiming to have seen human shapes within, while others saying it whispered their name before disappearing. There are natural explanations for the mist, but I think we all prefer the spooky version.
That is all I have for this week, but please be aware that by the time you read this, I will already be scouring the interwebs for more paranormal and supernatural stuff to share again next week. I hope to see you all then.

That YouTube channel looks awesome. I love the odd comfort of weird horror channels on in the background. I'll have to collect a few for you. Loved the mother of the mountain and your drabble. Perfect fit!
