Sorry I didn’t vote. I love this idea. If it was me I’d do separate stories… there’s more freedom in that; BUT sort of intermingle them if you will…. Like they’re all happening in the same “world”. Maybe a character or an event that comes up now and again in different stories that ties them together.

I do like the idea of world building for these.

I think mixing all three is a fantastic idea.

Cosmic horror and Penny Dreadfuls are such intriguing genres! The gothic vibes and creative monster designs will captivate the audience 🙂

John, this 'Penny Dreadful Experiment' is a brilliant concept. I voted for the Serials—there’s something uniquely gripping about a story that unfolds over time, and it creates a great opportunity to build a consistent, haunting visual identity for each part.

The foggy, gothic atmosphere you described, especially regarding Inspector Davren, demands a visceral aesthetic that goes beyond basic digital tools. As a dark illustrator, I can already see the textures of that London fog and the grit of those streets. This project has a soul, and it deserves to look as professional as the stories sound. I'm really looking forward to seeing this develop!

At some point, I would love to release something like this in a true penny dreadful style, complete with illustrations. Not financially viable at the moment, so I need to make do with the tools at my disposal right now.

John, I completely understand the financial side—independent publishing is a marathon, and we have to be smart about it. However, I’m so hooked on the atmosphere of this 'Penny Dreadful' project that I’d love to find a way to make it work.

I’m not looking for a formal contract right now. How about this: let’s brainstorm a bit. I’d love to do a rough mood sketch of Inspector Davren in the fog just to show you the difference a custom, atmospheric piece can make for your brand. No strings attached—just a tribute to a great idea. Should I send a sketch your way once I have it?

You are more than welcome to do that.

Hello John, how are you doing good Sire? Just a heads up:

I’ve been diving deep into the concepts for Inspector Davren and the 'Penny Dreadful' atmosphere. I’m spending the weekend refining the visual language and the specific textures for this piece—I want to ensure the emotional weight and that 'Gothic-Noir' grit are perfectly captured in every brushstroke. I expect to have the moody sketch ready for you by mid-next week. Really excited about where this is going! Cheers!

Sounds good. Looking forward to see what it inspires.

I like the idea of a mixture. Following one character allows me to get emotionally invested, but I would also love to see some one-offs that builds up the world.

I think this will be the way I’ll go.

I'd like to see stand alones and have Inspector Davren appear occassionally before trying him in a few one off adventures. If they go down well you could then progress him to the occassional 3 parter.

This was my initial thinking. I want to get the writing style down before fully pulling him in and building a whole world.

I like the sound of these, regardless of how you do it but I am a fan of random standalone so went with that on the poll. :)
