Tuesday Trio Drabbles - Insects & Animals
Three 100-word tales
I went into today looking to write as many drabbles as possible, all with the promise of sharing 3 of them. I am 10 deep right now and noticed that the obvious 3 to share all had insects or animals. I might make this a regular Tuesday feature if you guys enjoy it.
Anglerfish
His is a world of impenetrable dark, an obsidian universe where the meager light he diffuses does little to light the way. He feels safe there, but something calls from above. He cannot give a name to it, but he knows it’s there.
When darkness insists that it is about to become eternal, he chooses to answer the call. And so, he rises, moving ever closer to the thing he cannot name.
His eyes explode with the beauty of it all, and as his life slips slowly away, he hears a voice he somehow understands.
“I am the loving light.”
He-Man Centipede
Sam sat on the perfectly manicured lawn and giggled as the large, neon green centipede moved across the grass. He loved bugs of all kinds, but this one looked special, like some kind of alien transport.
He grabbed his He-Man toy and carefully placed it on the back of the centipede. The creature bucked its body and dislodged the toy and did so again when Sam tried placing it back on.
After the third attempt, Sam pitched a fit, stood, and stomped on the centipede. The blood burned through the rubber sole and on through the flesh, hungry for more.
Bad Kitty
Bill struggled to break free from the cops, screaming his innocence the whole time, all while the paramedics removed his wife from the house in a body bag.
“I’m telling you guys; she tripped over the cat and fell down the stairs.”
One of the cops grunted. This was his third trip to the same house, the previous two on domestic violence calls. “Tell it to the judge, tough guy.”
Another cop knelt and stroked the head of the black cat watching the scene play out with disinterest. “A cute guy like you would never hurt a mouse.”

I mean, Sam kind of deserved it. These are all so different, and I loved each of them.
These are fantastic! Although I am biased toward cats, the anglerfish was my favorite.
