A Book 40 Years in the Making

I'm not entirely sure where my love of horror was born, but I know exactly where it was fostered. When I was a kid in Scotland, Friday night creature features on TV were still a thing. Blobs, giants spiders, creatures from lagoons, and a host of others were what I loved. I would beg my mum to let me stay up so that I could watch those old movies, but I was always shuffled off to bed in a bit of a pout. Before long, though, my mum would come and get me and we would watch those old creature features together.

Imagine my delight when my publisher announced a new Creature Feature series of novellas, I was of, course instantly sold on the idea. This was my opportunity to feel like a kid again telling the kind of story that I loved to watch with my mum.

It was not intentional, but I completed Cradle Robber, my first entry into the series, in the early hours of Saturday morning, October 10, exactly 19 years to the day of my mum's passing. It was important to me to do this series justice, not just for my publisher and the people who read my books, but also for my mum. I wanted this story to be creepy and dark, just like those old movies we devoured all those years ago. It will be up to all of you to decide if I managed it, so please do let me know what you thought after you read it.

Cradle Robber will be unleashed in early December.
