Review - The Artifact by Brian Hill

SYNOPSIS -

The year is 1984, and Rev Parata is a hard-nosed, nearly destitute PI stuck in the orbit of New Orleans, fending off racists and criminals.

Things begin to look up, however, when a British aristocrat offers him the case of a lifetime—the search for a priceless, 4,000-year-old Egyptian relic.

As Rev digs his claws into the case, he becomes embroiled in a new world of intrigue and terror… a world where strange, unknowable entities dance behind his eyes and worm alien thoughts into his brain.

As he tracks down his mark, Rev begins to see that finding the relic is just the beginning, and he is pulled further into the deranged, shadow-world of the occult. A world where only two methods of escape seem possible: insanity, and death.

REVIEW -

Set in the 1980s, The Artifact tells the story of a private detective, Rev Parata, who is handed a case that ends up sending him into a world of occult horror.

This is an enjoyable read with a main character that is well fleshed out and believable. Parata is a big man with a definite set of skills, but a bum knee makes him at a disadvantage at times, which comes into play quite often as the action unfolds.

The story itself moves along at a good clip, but if you are in this for the occult aspects of the tale, you are going to need to wait a bit for those to unfold. An enjoyable read, and one that will have me going back for more in the series.
