3 Deadly Drabbles - Home Invasion
A trio of different takes on trespass and invasion
The Cabin
Along a rutted country trail sits a log cabin that looks inviting to those who find the path. No matter the time of day, a light burns in the window and smoke drifts lazily from the chimney.
Many hikers caught in bad weather have seen the cabin and thought it a place to see shelter. Those hikers were never seen or heard from again.
What they all failed to notice was the sign, hidden by layers of kudzu intent on covering everything in its path. The sign reads “Turn Back Now,” but who put it there is unknown to anyone.
Who Are You?
The accident somehow left my body intact, but the broken windshield glass went to work on my face. It dug deep, carving flesh and embedding itself in a way that made me look like a crystal Pinhead.
Given two options, I chose a face transplant over living with scars that would deliver nothing but stares and derision from all who came upon me.
Now, when I look in the mirror, I see someone different, but worst of all, I can hear that person inside my head asking, “Who Are You?” I’m not sure I have an answer to give them.
After the Fire
Once a home filled with love and laughter, the structure is now nothing more than a hollowed-out shell. Fire destroyed it all, or so it was believed.
The husk of a house became a place for teenager to congregate, to drink and fuck and do all manner of illicit deeds. The house did not look kindly on the intrusion.
It would send out the ghosts of the dead family to strike fear into trespassers. The little girl with the red balloon, her face a twisted mass of melted flesh, would giggle once and clear the space. But still they came.

Very cool. I could see a novella from the last one.
I had to giggle just a little when it started off in the “log cabin.” My mind immediately went to all the horror movies that took place in the middle of nowhere in a log cabin. Let me ask you this, why do people think that a log cabin is the perfect scenario to a good scare? I’m asking this, cause I live in one. 😂
