The Paranormal Digest for Feb 14, 2026
The day of love is about to get creepy
It does seem a little odd to be talking about all things spooky on the day we are supposed to be focused on love. Fear not, though, my regular digest readers, for I have come up with some items that are perfectly suited to Valentine’s Day. So, maybe snuggle up on the couch with your favorite person, and hold each other close as you learn about this week’s chilling details.
Haunted Location - Chillingham Castle
Located in Northumberland, England, this is a castle that seems to put the chilling in Chillingham. The ancient castle is home to several spirits, the most famous of which is the Blue Boy. He seems to be most active at night, with people reportedly hearing his chilling screams. Besides the wailing boy, there is also allegedly the ghost of a grey lady, as well as a former torturer at the castle. This is more than enough for folks to lay claim to Chillingham being the most haunted castle in Great Britain.
Urban Legend - Teke Teke
I don’t know about all of you, but I tend to find the urban legends from Japan to be absolutely terrifying. We have one of those this week in the sliced-up shape of the Teke Teke. The urban legend describes her as a girl who was cut in half by a train after either unaliving herself or being pushed in front of it. She is now out for vengeance, dragging herself along to chase down people to slice with her signature scythe. I think I’ll take an Uber.
Creepy Cryptid - Bunyip
Based in Australia, there are several different descriptions for this water monster. Common descriptions suggest that is has an amphibious body, a rather horrifically loud screech, and a taste for the night life. The Bunyip is found in the rivers of Southeastern Australia, with its rather odd name coming from the Aboriginal word meaning “devil” or “evil spirit.” Either way, save your skinny dipping for the daylight hours.
Video of the Week - Valentine’s Day
Okay, so I had to do something that was related to the day of love. After a wee bit of scouring YouTube, I found a short video called Valentine’s Day. You might be better cuddling up and watching a Lifetime movie, but I will argue that this one is more entertaining and original.
Horror Book of the Week - Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison
I usually try and find a free book for you guys, but I really did want something that blended horror with a love story. I think I might have found a good one in Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison. This seems like a love story with a werewolf bite.
Deadly Drabble - Canoodle
The kitchen is cramped, their bodies pressing together as she cooks. As the pasta sauce bubbles, she pulls him in close for a canoodle. He wants to say no, as tonight marks the end.
When he closes his eyes, all he sees are his wife’s beautiful blue eyes, twinkling as she smiles. He feels shame, so he pulls away from the kiss.
With a frown, she ladles up some of the pasta sauce and holds it out for him to taste. When he leans forward, he sees the lump in the sauce, the beautiful blue eye staring back at him.
Random Weirdness - Ratazana
With urban legends, we often talk about spirits and hauntings, but the Ratman, or Ratazana, in Toledo, Ohio is creepier because it is supposedly a bipedal rat creature that hides out in tunnels. He is often seen dashing across overpasses, but there have also been reports of attacks, with the creature scratching and biting its victims.
That is all I have for you guys this week. I shall return next Saturday with another round of the spooky and weird, so be sure to mark your calendars.

One of my faves is Llarona... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Llorona
And I agree, those Japanese folklore monsters are terrifying!
I like the contrast here — leaning into something romantic before sliding into the unsettling bits makes it hit a little harder.
The Blue Boy detail is great too. Hearing something before seeing it is always worse somehow. The mind fills in things you almost wish it wouldn’t.
